the local sports scene
Sacramento's basketball team is the oldest continuously operating franchise in the NBA, and the city had to fight twice to keep it.

The scene
The Kings trace back to 1923 in Rochester and have never folded or suspended operations, which no other NBA club can say. Attempts to move the team to Anaheim in 2011 and to Seattle in 2013 were both stopped, the second after a local ownership group and a very loud public campaign; Golden 1 Center opened downtown in 2016 as the result. Sutter Health Park across the river hosts the River Cats, and has served as a major-league home while the Athletics wait on a new ballpark.
Rivalries that matter
Kings against the Lakers and Warriors are the games that sell out fastest; the 2002 Western Conference Finals against Los Angeles is still argued about here.
Where to watch
DOCO, the plaza attached to the arena, and Midtown along J and K Streets.
