the local sports scene
Auckland is the only city in New Zealand that can fill an stadium for rugby, league, football and cricket in the same month — and does.
The local sports scene
The scene
The Blues carry Super Rugby; the Warriors are the NRL's southern outpost with a fanbase that travels to Las Vegas now. Auckland FC and Wellington aside, football is growing but still second desk. Eden Park and Mount Smart are ten kilometres apart and divide the winter calendar. The NZ Herald sports section is the national paper of record for all of it.
Rivalries that matter
Blues against Crusaders is the Super Rugby line everyone marks; Warriors against Brisbane is the NRL grudge that matters here. The Americas Cup and Auckland FC's derby with Wellington are newer but loud.
Where to watch
Britomart and the waterfront before Eden Park; Penrose pubs on Warriors nights.
